Here are the Happenings:
Wednesday, June 3:
- Hot Pastrami Sandwiches are on the lunch menu.
- The Riders' Trophy Steal takes place at ALR 66 in Green Valley at 12PM.
- Bar Bingo starts at 5PM. Come play all 11 games or just a few.
Thursday, June 4:
- Legion Burgers are available from 11AM-1PM.
- The Ace of Spades with Deuces Wild Drawing takes place following the 7 o'clock toast.
- Karaoke with Gina starts after the Drawing.
R.E.D. FRIDAY, June 5:
- Remember Everyone Deployed by wearing your R.E.D. SHIRT. We still have R.E.D. shirts available for purchase. See the bartender if interested.
- Hot Dogs/Chili Dogs are on the lunch menu.
- The TOG brings you "H2O Fest" at the Mesquite Aquatic Center from 3-7PM. Registration is $7 and is required. There will be playful water obstacles, water slides, water activities and of course a giant pool.
- The Legionnaires are in the kitchen cooking dinner with service starting at 5:30PM.
- Karaoke starts at 8PM.
Saturday, June 6:
- Today is a Big Day! It's time for the Christmas 4 Kids Rib Cook-Off! The event takes place from 11AM-6PM. Watch some of your 39 Legion Family members compete for the best tasting ribs! Rib tasting starts at 3PM. There will be live music from 2-5PM. Be sure to buy some raffle tickets for some really cool prizes! Some of the raffle prizes include a Yeti cooler, a hot air balloon ride, a car dash cam, lunch for 6 at Postino's, a gift card tree, a personalized quilt and more! A 50/50 raffle will also be happening. The Post is Open to the Public so it's a great opportunity to recruit new eligible members. Applications for all entities are located in the wall files near the back door.
- Poker is CANCELED!
- June 6 also marks the 82nd Anniversary of D-Day, the day of the Allied invasion of Normandy, France during World War ll.
- Post 91 is hosting a "Beat the Heat" Poker Run. Registration opens at 7:15AM with KSU at 8AM with stops at Posts 62,12, 41 then returning to 91 for an ice cream social with a slushy machine, music, food, 50/50 and fun.
- Post 138 in Mesa is hosting "All Stars Comedy Club" from 7-9PM.
Sunday, June 7:
- The Legionnaires are back in the kitchen cooking breakfast. The window opens at 9AM.
- Riders' Capture the Flag takes place at ALR 24 in Tombstone at 2PM.
- Bingo starts at 2PM. Come play all 10 games or just a few.
Monday, June 8:
- Sloppy Joes are on the lunch menu.
- The Queen of Hearts Drawing takes place at 7PM.
- Texas Hold 'Em Poker starts at 7PM.
Tuesday, June 9:
- It's Taco Tuesday and the Post has you covered for both lunch and dinner.
- The Auxiliary General Meeting, normally scheduled on the 2nd Tuesday of the month, is CANCELED and moved to the 4th Tuesday. It will go back to its regularly scheduled night in July.
- The Gilbert Town Council Regular Meeting starts at 6:30PM at the Municipal Building 1 in the Council Chambers.
Still Happening:
- The month of June is National PTSD Awareness Month. This is a time to honor resilience, break stigma, and stand with those affected. Let's raise awareness, advocate for care, and build understanding across our communities. Honestly, this should be 24/7/365-366.
- Have you signed up for the Community Rewards program offered by Fry's? This is FREE money given to OUR Post just by shopping at Fry's! The money received from Fry's goes towards our programs that help veterans. It costs you NOTHING extra and it doesn't affect your points! You just need to sign in to your Fry's (or Kroger) account, go to Community Rewards and select "American Legion Merrill Mitchell Post 39" and a portion of your money spent at Fry's will be donated back to our Post. Sign up once and you are done. Just do it!!
Looking Ahead:
- No date yet, but new 250th Anniversary of the Declaration of Independence/Post 39 t-shirts will be available for purchase soon!
- No date yet, but Comedy Night at the Post is coming soon!
- No date yet, but a 3 day Off Road Ride is being planned by the 39 Trail Riders.
- June 12: Women's Veterans Day. Be sure to thank, honor and recognize our female Veterans.
- June 12: Women Veterans Day Recognition Event at Post 27 from 6-8PM. Open to ALL Women Veterans. Register by email to events@apachepost27az.org.
- June 13: Service Officer at the Post from 8:30-11:30AM. If you are a veteran or know of a veteran who needs help accessing his or her VA benefits, the Post is the place to be!
- June 13: Unit 91 is hosting a Women Veterans Appreciation Luncheon. Register on "ALA Unit 91 Chandler, AZ" Facebook page. Doors open at Noon.
- June 14: Proper Flag Retirement at 6AM.
- June 14: Flag Day and U.S. Army Birthday. There will be a Flag Ceremony at 1PM. It isn't a Birthday without cake, so I am sure there will be plenty of that too!
- June 14: SAL General Meeting at 12PM.
- June 14: Jimmy P. will be performing at Icons Sports Grill from 3:30-6:30PM located at 1475 W. Elliot Rd. in Gilbert.
- June 16: Legion General Meeting at 6PM.
- June 19: The TOG brings you Juneteenth Celebration at the Southeast Regional Library.
- June 21: Father's Day! Treat your Dad to breakfast at the Post. Aux is in the kitchen!
- June 23: Auxiliary General Meeting (changed from June 9)
- June 23: Coast Guard Auxiliary Birthday.
- June 23: TOG Town Council Regular Meeting
- June 25: Korean War Commencement Day.
- June 25-28: Department Convention in Chandler. Must be registered to attend. See Frank, Christine P. or Johnny (depending on your Entity) to sign up.
- June 27: National PTSD Awareness Day.
