Wednesday, August 26:
- August 26th marks the the 5th anniversary of the 2021 suicide bombing at Abbey Gate outside the Kabul airport in Afghanistan. 13 U.S. Service Members lost their lives on that day. Please keep them and their families in your thoughts and/or prayers as you go about your day today. There is a beautiful tribute setup at the Post to honor these brave men and women. Check it out if you have a chance.
- Hot Pastrami Sandwiches are on the lunch menu.
- Another "Be The One" online training class from 2-3:30PM. Learn to recognize and help a veteran in crisis. Register on the National Legion website.
- Come join the fun at Bar Bingo starting at 5PM. Play all 11 games or just a few.
Thursday, August 27;
- Legion Burgers are available from 11AM-1PM.
- Preseason Football continues with Commander Frank's Buffalo Bills hosting the Steelers at 4PM followed by the Rams and Chargers at 7PM.
- Week 2 of Guitars for Vets starts at 5PM.
- The Ace of Spades with Deuces Wild Drawing takes place shortly after the 7 o'clock toast.
- Karaoke with Gina starts right after the Drawing.
R.E.D. FRIDAY, August 28:
- Remember Everyone Deployed by wearing your R.E.D. shirt.
- Hot Dogs/Chili Dogs are on the lunch menu.
- The NFL Preseason resumes at 3PM with the Ravens hosting the Redskins, I mean Commanders. The Bengals and Eagles start at 5 and the Vikings and Broncos at 6PM. There are 7 other games taking place, but the NFL is making it difficult to watch them all. Some are on ESPN+ and others are on the ESPN app, so I am not sure how viewing at the Post is going to work out. Rest assured though, the Post does have the NFL ticket for the regular season Sunday games.
- The Riders are in the kitchen cooking dinner with service starting at 5:30PM. In addition to the regular Friday night dinner menu of Steaks, Burgers, Fried Fish and Shrimp, they will be offering Baked Chicken Breasts.
- Jimmy P. is singing and playing at Post 91 in Chandler at 6PM.
- Karaoke at 39 starts at 8PM.
Saturday, August 29:
- All Seltzers are $1 off all day and night.
- NFL preseason starts at 10AM with the Lions at the Colts followed by Jimmy P.'s Bears at the Titans at 3PM.
- Poker starts at 1PM.
Sunday, August 30:
- Somebody is in the kitchen cooking breakfast, but I am not sure who. Come find out when the kitchen opens at 9AM.
- The kitchen will be closed for the rest of the day once breakfast ends at 11AM. There is a Potluck "Send Off" for Legion Family Members Dean and Patti Weingarten who are moving out of state next month to be near their grandchildren. All are welcome to bring a dish, appetizer or dessert and hang around to play some Bingo and wish Dean and Patti the best in their next chapter.
- Bingo starts at 2PM. Come play all 10 games or just a few.
- The Riders' Capture the Flag is at Post 29 in Glendale at 2PM.
Monday, August 31:
- Sloppy Joes are on the lunch menu.
- *** The kitchen will be open for dinner. Legion Cheeseburgers, Grilled Chicken Sandwiches, Fried Chicken Sandwiches, Flatbreads and Quesadillas are on the menu.
- *** The Queen of Hearts Drawing takes place at 7PM. The pot is currently at $11,717.00 and will surely grow to well over $12K by draw time! Ticket sales can be bought all week long until 6:50 on Monday night.
- Texas Hold 'Em Poker starts at 7PM.
Tuesday, September 1:
- "Be The One" Day, wear your "Be The One" apparel to bring awareness to Veteran Suicide. Learn to recognize and help a veteran in crisis. Tell others how they can help too.
- September 1st also marks the first day of Suicide Prevention Month.
- Did you know that September is also National Preparedness Month? You ask, "What is that?" NPM is recognized each September to promote family and community disaster planning now and throughout the year.
- We have Tacos available for lunch and dinner.
- House Meeting followed by the Legion E-Board Meeting starts at 6PM.
- Gilbert Town Council Regular Meeting starts at 6:30PM at the Civic Center.

- Renewing your membership for 2027 is still happening! The Legionnaires are $50, the SONS are $35 and the Auxiliary is $40. Auxiliary Members can renew by one of the following options:
- Pay with a credit card over the phone to National at 317-569-4570.
- Pay online at https://member.legion-aux.org/renew. You will need to enter your membership number and name exactly how it is shown on your 2026 card (let me know if you can't find your card).
- You can mail a check for $40 to ALA Unit 39 206 N. Gilbert R. Gilbert, AZ 85234
- You can pay with cash, check or credit card at the Post through the Bartender on duty or through a 39 Legion Family Officer that happens to be there. (All entities can use this option)

- You can also drop a check in the secure Auxiliary mailbox located by the Women's restroom at the Post.
- Are you a Legion Family Member who wants to learn more about what the American Legion is all about? Now available online is a self-paced Basic Training course for officers, members, Legion College applicants and those who simply want to expand their knowledge of the nation's largest veterans organization. The course is divided into 6 sections and should take less than 2 hours to complete. More info can be found on the national legion website. Under the information center tab, click on "Training". If you have trouble logging in using your Legion, SAL or Auxiliary username and password, call the phone number and they will help you. Oh yeah, and your name will be put in the bucket for an upcoming Drawing after completion of the course (I have no idea what you could win).
