Pat Tillman Veterans Center ASU’s military-connected student headquarters for support and connection.
Dear Members of American Legion Post 39,
I want to sincerely thank you for selecting me as a recipient of your scholarship. Your generosity and support mean a great deal to me as I continue my education and pursue my nursing degree. This award helps ease the financial burden of my studies and encourages me to work even harder toward my goals of serving others in healthcare. I am truly honored that you have chosen to invest in my future. Thank you again for your commitment to supporting local students and veterans’ families.
Warm regards,
Jocelyn Suniega
Jocelyn Suniega is a nursing major at Arizona State University’s Edson College of Nursing and Health Innovation. She has a deep connection to the veteran community as her father proudly served in the U.S. Navy, and her grandfather, a retired Air Force veteran buried at Riverside National Cemetery, who inspired her calling to nursing during his battle with stage 4 colon cancer. These experiences reinforced her passion for caring for others with empathy and strength.
As a student worker at the Pat Tillman Veteran Center, she supports veterans and their families in achieving their educational goal. Jocelyn believes this position allows her to give back to a community that has given so much to her family.
Jocelyn plans to graduate in December 2026 and pursue a career as a NICU or oncology nurse. She is inspired by the support of organizations like American Legion Post 39 to serve with purpose, lead with empathy, and honor the legacy of those who have worn the uniform. She is honored to be the first recipient of the American Legion Post 39 Scholarship.
